Former VW diesel engine executive resigns from Porsche following seven-month Dieselgate suspension

The head of research and development at Porsche has announced that he is leaving the company seven months after being suspended by Volkswagen for possible involvement in the Dieselgate scandal. Wolfgang Hatz had previously served as the head of engine and transmission development at Volkswagen during the time in which the German automaker developed the “clean diesel” engines at the center of the emissions cheating scandal. VW Recall of 8.5 million diesel vehicles underway in Europe, CEO says

Volkswagen CEO Matthias Muller announced in January that that the company’s recall of 8.5 million diesel-powered vehicles in Europe affected by the company’s emissions cheating would begin at the end of that month. Volkswagen faces billions in damages from lawsuits over Dieselgate emissions scandal, legal experts say

Legal experts say that the lawsuit filed against Volkswagen AG by the U.S. Department of Justice could cost the German automaker tens of billions of dollars in fines and penalties. Judge in Dieselgate MDL, Volkswagen attorneys want speedy resolution to emissions cheating lawsuits

U.S. District Judge Charles R. Breyer, who is overseeing more than 500 lawsuits against Volkswagen in California federal court involving the diesel emissions cheating scandal, says that he would like to resolve the cases quickly because of the 500,000 VW and Audi owners who face an “immediate problem” with their vehicles. Attorneys representing Volkswagen in the MDL have also stated that they would like to resolve the lawsuits against the German automaker as quickly as possible. (more…)

The U.S. Department of Justice has filed a lawsuit against Volkswagen over the company’s actions in connection with last year’s diesel emissions cheating scandal. Volkswagen is facing four counts of violating the Clean Air Act, and could face billions of dollars in penalties and fines for lying to federal regulators and consumers about the emissions levels of its VW, Audi, and Porsche diesel models. Volkswagen admits it lied about greenhouse gas emissions for European diesel, gasoline vehicles

Volkswagen has admitted that it lied about greenhouse gas emission levels for more than 800,000 vehicles sold in Europe. Although most of the vehicles involved in Volkswagen’s latest admission were diesel vehicles, this latest admission raises the possibility that the recent VW emissions scandal may involve regular gasoline-powered vehicles sold by the German automaker. EPA uncovers emissions ‘defeat device’ on additional Volkswagen, Audi, Porsche diesel models

An investigation by the EPA has revealed that Volkswagen installed an emissions “defeat device” on several additional diesel-powered models besides those included in the “Dieselgate” recall. Volkswagen announced in September 2015 that it would recall 11 million “TDI Clean Diesel” vehicles worldwide—including 500,000 in the U.S.—after admitting that it had lied to consumers about the performance and emissions levels of these vehicles.
